Hosted by Cascadia Wildfire and Urban Smoke Working Group

Wednesday, March 18, 1:00 PM Pacific — via Zoom

Artificial intelligence tools are rapidly transforming how wildfire risk is analyzed and communicated. In this session of the Cascadia Wildfire & Urban Smoke Webinar Series, Anthony Nystrom, AI/ML Principal Architect & Data Scientist and a Conservation Biology Institute Associate, will present NuGenSciSync, a research intelligence platform built on advanced natural language processing (NLP) that enables users to analyze and explore scientific information through simple prompts. The platform integrates multiple data sources—including scientific literature, structured environmental datasets, files, and live data streams—and synthesizes them into query-driven research outputs. It can also render GIS data tied to specific locations, allowing users to combine spatial information with wildfire risk, fire perimeter, and related datasets. The work draws on collaborations with fire ecologist Dr. Alexandra Syphard and others advancing data-driven wildfire science. The session will also include a short demonstration by Jonathan Fink of an experimental wildfire intelligence system built using readily-available large-language-model tools including ChatGPT, Gemini, and NotebookLM.
