Global Wildfire Collective Academy

What is the Global Wildfire Collective Academy?

Fire science draws upon a wide range of computational approaches designed for different purposes, from estimating fire behavior and exposure in communities to evaluating management options and exploring long-term changes in vegetation, land use, and human-caused ignitions under a changing climate.

As wildfire impacts grow in scale and complexity, the science used to understand and anticipate them must be matched to different questions, timescales, and decisions. The Global Wildfire Collective (GWC) Academy is designed to amplify and apply this science to increase the resilience of institutions and communities through training modules, workshops and webinars.

Fire Modeling Literacy Program

The GWC Fire Modelling Literacy Program (FMLP) is a tiered professional development and certification ecosystem designed to strengthen applied wildfire modelling literacy across utilities, insurance, agriculture, research and other wildfire risk sectors.

Because fire models differ in purpose, scale, assumptions, and uncertainty, there is a growing need for training that helps users understand what different models can and cannot tell them, and how to interpret outputs appropriately in real-world decision contexts.

GWC Fire Science Webinar Series

The GWC Fire Science Webinar Series features cutting-edge research to advance understanding of the drivers of fire and the social and ecological effects of fire across disciplines and geographies and biomes.

The series brings together international experts to illustrate critical aspects of the GWC’s four scientific pillars: wildfire & global change; fire ecology & biodiversity; fire management & operations; and community safety & resilience.
