GWC charter member Steve Hawks, Senior Director for Wildfire at the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), sheds new light on how homeowners can dramatically cut wildfire risk. In recent research, Steve highlights that creating a small ember-resistant buffer—about five feet around your home—can halve the chance of ignition by wildfires. IBHS has introduced a 90-minute, self-paced online course designed to help homeowners grasp the science behind wildfire and learn how proven, research-driven steps can significantly lower the risk to their homes.
