GWC Charter Member, Mike Flannigan of Thompson Rivers University, warns that British Columbia may be heading into its fourth consecutive severe fire season this year. Current drought conditions, forecasts for a hot and dry summer, and a likely shift from La Niña to El Niño are all pointing toward heightened fire risk. The previous three years all saw burning well above the ten-year average, peaking at 2.8 million hectares in 2023.
