A strategy to strengthen prevention, preparedness, and response throughout Colombia.
The new program seeks to bolster institutional and territorial readiness in the face of forest fires, which are becoming increasingly frequent and intense due to climate variability and climate change. The initiative integrates prevention, preparedness, and response actions, combining technical, operational, and community-based strengths throughout Colombia.
One of its primary components will be the launch of the Forest Brigades Program under the National Disaster Risk Management System (SNGRD), which is set to begin operations within six months. Its operations will adhere to technical and operational guidelines established by the National Fire Department of Colombia.
The country’s forest brigades will be standardized and accredited, thereby enhancing their technical capabilities through training, specialized instruction, and the provision of operational equipment. The objective is to improve interoperability among various entities and to prioritize territories that experience a higher recurrence of forest fires.
