Postdoctoral Researcher, High Meadows Environmental Institute, Princeton University
Dr. Abigail Croker is a postdoctoral researcher at the High Meadows Environmental Institute at Princeton University. She is a pyro-geographer in complex systems dynamics, focusing on the relationship between fire and climate and biology, topography, and society and culture. Dr. Croker holds a PhD in Environmental Science and Policy from Imperial College London, UK where she researched fire dynamics and political ecology across Sub-Saharan African savanna-protected areas. She is more recently involved in a landscape-level wildfire ‘resilience’ project, critically re-examining this term and exposing current governance silos to foster robust, multi-domain fire governance in increasingly fire-prone and fire-novel ecosystems. Dr Croker’s work spans pyro-geographies and land types worldwide, while recognising the importance of centring local, experiential realities and knowledges in understanding and addressing fire challenges.
