Dr. Iokiñe Rodríguez is a Venezuelan sociologist specializing in local environmental knowledge and conflict transformation in Latin America, using participatory action-research. She focuses on issues of local history, local knowledge, power, environmental justice, equity and intercultural dialogue. She has worked extensively on indigenous knowledge and uses of fire in forest-savannah ecosystems and on intercultural approaches to fire management in Venezuela, Guyana, Bolivia and Mexico, which has led to over 15 papers on indigenous use of fire in Latin America.
Dr. Rodríguez is co-editor of “Just Transformations: Grassroots Struggles for Alternative Futures”, which investigates the role of resistance movements in creating sustainable transformations, the strategies they utilise to overcome barriers, and how academics and grassroots activists can collaborate more effectively in these transformations.
