Dr Laura M Bellis is a senior research scientist at the Institute of Biological and Technological Research (IIByT) and the Centre for Ecology and Renewable Natural Resources (CERNAR), and professor at the National University of Córdoba, Argentina. For over 25 years, she has conducted research into land cover changes, fire ecology, and biodiversity loss, addressing her research objectives and questions by combining field data with variables derived from remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), spatial statistics, and predictive models. The region of study is the forests of central Argentina; however, her research has also focused on other environments, such as the forests of the South American Chaco, the Espinal, the Southern Yungas and Patagonia. Her research has also covered different taxa, including birds, mammals and amphibians.
