Wildfire Scientist, UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology
Maria Barbosa is a Wildfire Scientist at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) and a member of the State of Wildfires project science team. She led the BASE project in Brazil, which explored how wildfire modelling can be strengthened through the integration of local knowledge. Maria also co-developed the ConFLAME fire model, a framework designed to assess and attribute burned area during extreme fire events. Her research sits at the intersection of climate change, fire modelling and societal impacts, with a focus on improving our understanding and prediction of wildfire risk in a changing world.
