Dr. Stijn Hantson is a researcher with extensive international experience studying impacts of fire on ecosystems and Earth system functioning. He specializes in remote sensing, geographic information systems and modeling, with a focus on understanding interactions between vegetation dynamics, fire regimes and climate change. Dr. Hantson holds a Ph.D. in GIS and Remote Sensing from the University of Alcalá and a Master’s in Forest and Nature Conservation from Wageningen University. Currently, he leads the Max-Planck Tandem Group on Biogeochemistry at Universidad del Rosario, where he serves as associate professor investigating the causes and impacts of fire on Colombian ecosystems.
