National Head of Forest Fire Risk Prevention Cuerpo General de Bomberos Voluntarios del Perú
Markristian Madariaga Pareja is an agroforestry engineer and certified forest firefighter with specialized training under NWCG (National Wildfire Coordinating Group – USA) standards, with more than 10 years of experience as a volunteer firefighter and more than 7 years dedicated to the integral management of forest fire risk in Peru. He currently serves as National Coordinator of the Forest Fire Courses of the General Directorate of Academic Training of the General Volunteer Fire Department of Peru (CGBVP) and as National Chief of Risk Forecasting in the Forest Fire Response Program (PRIF).
His work combines the implementation of early warning systems, technical training of forest fighters, regulatory development, hazard analysis, and the incorporation of intercultural approaches in Integrated Fire Management. He has led training and territorial planning processes with Amazonian native communities, integrating traditional knowledge with modern tools such as satellite monitoring and risk mapping.
As a consultant to organizations such as FAO and CARE, he has developed prevention, contingency and recovery plans for forest fires in highly vulnerable regions. His professional focus is on strengthening institutional and community capacities to face the challenges of climate change and reduce the ecological, social and economic impacts of fire in the Peruvian territory.
