Global Wildfire Collective Charter Member, Dr. Alejandro Miranda is a researcher at the Center for Climate Science and Resilience (CR2), a research center that brings together experts from the social and natural sciences to generate knowledge about climate science and resilience. The organization seeks an interdisciplinary approach and studies how climate change impacts ecosystems and Chilean society.
In a dialogue with Mongabay Latam about Chile’s catastrophic fires of January 2026, he explains the underlying causes of the tragedy, one that has repeated over the years and leaves in its wake the loss of human lives, homes and biodiversity, as well as economic and infrastructure losses.
